“Our kids should see a future and opportunities here. Too many folks are leaving Eastern Arkansas, and it’s time to secure the investments we need to create a thriving community.”
Dexter Miller was born in Elaine, Arkansas. He was raised by his grandparents, who lacked a high school education but had endless love for their five grandchildren. His humble roots were planted firmly in the Delta soil, and he learned how much there is to love about Eastern Arkansas by running barefoot through Delta fields and seeing his neighbors step up for one another.
Dexter grew up in Lake View and graduated from C.V. White High School before attending Phillips County Community College and Ashford College. He received his Bachelor’s in Business Administration but always longed to serve the community that helped raise him.
Dexter has lived in Phillips County for more than 40 years. He married his wife Tameko more than 31 years ago.
After graduating from college, Dexter began his career doing blue-collar work at the Cedar Chemical Corporation in Helena. Initially working as an operator, Dexter advanced to become a supervisor at the plant. After more than seven years working there, Dexter transitioned to serving our local schools, providing the technology support they need to thrive. He realized his true passion for education.
Dexter currently works as a Digital Learning Coordinator in the Office of Coordinated Support Service for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Every day, he travels across District 62 to local public schools and assists with technology/digital services. Dexter provides solutions to the issues they’re facing. He empowers local school districts by advocating and securing resources for them at the state level.
He served as the Chair of the Helena Regional Hospital Board, allowing him to oversee the investment process that prevented the Hospital from closing its doors.
Dexter’s blue-collar background, service to students and schools, and facilitation of care for patients provide him with a well-rounded view of the needs in District 62. He will take his experience to the State House to be the best possible advocate for his neighbors and our community.
Dexter and his wife Tameko have more than 52+ combined years of experience working in local school districts across the Delta. Through their hard work, they have raised a beautiful family, making their home in Helena.
This fight is personal for Dexter and his family.
Dexter Miller will fight the culture of corruption in Little Rock and be accountable to the working people of Phillips, Lee, Monroe, Desha, St. Francis, and Arkansas Counties.
Dexter is involved in numerous community organizations, including the Phillips County Planning Commission, and is a member of the Arkansas Democratic Black Caucus.
